Currently located within the Ernie Bodin Community Center, the Mackenzie & District Museum connects the past and present of Mackenzie and area. But that is all about to change as the museum is moving!

Once A Hospital…

Did you know that the Ernie Bodin Community Center used to be the local hospital?

The Mackenzie & District Museum still has the original bathtub – which still works! The hospital exhibition is a very popular feature, especially for the local residents who remember when it was a hospital. Museum staff frequently reminisce with people who were born in this hospital or remember being a patient within these walls.

Unfortunately, the useable lifespan of the building has come to an end. June 2024 will be your last opportunity to explore the old hospital and the Museum at the EBCC.

The Future of The Museum

Want to explore the trappers cabin, marvel at the Marge McDougall collection, or learn about the history of the valley?

There are so many hidden treasures within the Mackenzie & District Museum and they will all be moved to the new location on Mackenzie Blvd.

Exhibitions

Marge McDougall

The Mackenzie & District Museum is proud to exhibit paintings by Marge McDougal. Featuring members of Tse’khene First Nations people that lived near Finlay Forks in the mid 1900s, her portraits share a glimpse into the past.

Mackenzie and the surrounding area has a long history of inspiring artists with its beautiful views and supportive community.

The Marge McDougal collection will move with the museum and be on display at the new home.

The Trappers Cabin

An eye catching exhibition, the Trapper’s Cabin transports you back in time. With taxidermy animals, antique bottles, and a collection of artifacts that a trapper may have kept, this exhibition is a look into the lives of some of the earliest people who called our valley home.

What exhibition or artifact is your favourite?

With the upcoming move, the Museum would love to hear from the community about what your favourite exhibition or artifact is?

A New Home for the Mackenzie & District Museum

The Mackenzie & District Museum will be opening its doors at the new location, #1 320 Mackenzie Blvd, on July 2, 2024.

Please be patient while the museum staff and volunteers work hard to set up new exhibitions.

Thank You

The Mackenzie & District Museum would like to thank the District of Mackenzie and the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George for their continued support.

The Museum is currently raising funds to build a new museum in Mackenzie. If you would like to donate to support the building fund, please stop by the Museum or contact Curator Jim: [email protected]
