About Art Classes

I offer a unique approach to learning art.

I will bring a reference of some kind (usually a still life, sometimes a picture or painting), and each person will work on creating their art from the reference. If someone wants to paint, they can do that, if someone wants to draw, they can do that. I will have a suggested medium but it’s never forced.

Each class starts with a certain aspect or skill – the first class of a new subject matter is typically composition. A demonstration or example will be given to help student understand the concepts being introduced.

Then, depending on the speed and need of each student, I will go around and help each student individually or talk to the whole group if someone has a question that could apply to all.

So very individual focused but in a group setting.

Because I want people to grow their skills, each class is not focused on creating a finished piece. It is about developing skills along the way – the finished art is just a bonus. Classes are designed for students will develop their skills over time. This is not a one and done type of class – art is a commitment that requires practice and time.
